Here are the Baseball Rankings for the first "half" of the year.
1. Chicago Cubs: They have the best record in baseball at 57-38, what more needs to be said.
2. Los Angeles Angels: They also have the best record at 57-38. They get the bump down to second because they lack the star player that the cubs have.
3. St. Louis Cardinals: I'd love to put the Rays here, but they are on the decline. The Cardinals however are in the National League, and could put up 97-100 wins this season.
4. Chicago White Sox: How many times in the history of baseball have the Cubs and White Sox been mentioned in the top 5 teams of the league. This year seems to be the year though of Chicago. New York had it for a few years, the Boston, now Chicago.
5. Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays may be on the down-hill, but they do have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball and currently have the 3rd best record.
6. Minnesota Twins: When the Twins traded Johan Santana in the offseason, most people would have expected them to drop about 7-10 wins from last year and be out of the playoffs by the end of May. In reality though, they are 4 games better than last year, and only 1.5 games behind the first place White Sox.
7. New York Yankees: To be honest, the Yankees have struggled so much this year, yet have managed to post a 50-45 record at the break. Through 95 games last year, they were 49-46. If everything works out, then the Yanks will again win 95 games and earn a wild card spot.
8. Milwaukee Brewers: Although they don't have the best record and are third place in their own division, they made the big acquistion so far in CC Sabathia, and look posied to stay in the hunt in mid-september.
9. New York Mets: When the Mets fired Willie Randolph a few weeks ago, they look like a team who was looking forward to next season. Now they look like a team who might be the champions going into next season. However, 6 of their 9 straight wins have been against San Francisco and Colorado; two of the worst teams this season.
10. Oakland Athletics: Woh, where did these guys come from. They look so far so good, but now that they have dealt Rich Harden they look like they are preparing for next season again. Oh well, they could win if they wanted to but Billy Beane seems poised to continually be preparing for nest season.
The Final 20 teams I will just list.
11. Texas Rangers
12. Detroit Tigers
13. Arizona Diamondbacks
14. Los Angeles Dodgers
15. Toronto Blue Jays
16. Baltimore Orioles
17. Cincinnati Reds
18. Atlanta Braves
19. Pittsburgh Pirates
20. Kansas City Royals
21. San Francisco Giants
22. Cleveland Indians
23. Houston Astros
24. San Diego Padres
25. Colorado Rockies
26. Washington Nationals
27. Seattle Mariners
Blast!!! I forgot about the Phillies, Marlins, and Red Sox. The Red Sox are a top 5, Phillies a top 10, and the Marlins are somewhere between 15-20. Sorry about this.
