Mussina wins again: Yanks win 8-4

For all those who said that Mike Mussina was washed up, old, and barely a decent reliever, you guys were all wrong.  I however, was right.  I have said since day one that Mussina would pitch well this year.  Even I didn't think it would be this good though.  I thought maybe 14-17 wins with a 4.65 ERA.  Basically, a third starter.  it would have been tough to expect him to be pitching this well, a potential 20+ win season and only a high 3 ERA.  If he can keep this up, he will be in Cy young contention.

To the game now.  The Yankees have played well in the last two games, and A-rod has been on fire.  He hit another HR tonight, and is 3 for his last 7.  To top it off, the Yankee bullpen is playing extremely well and has only give up one run in its last 10 innings, thats under a 1 ERA.  With the way the Yanks are playing right now, against the weaker NL, they could finish this round of inter-league play with 7 or 8 wins.  Not bad for a team that was written off as another bust just a weak ago.

Player of the Game:  Alex Rodriguez takes the title tonight.  He went 2-3 with a HR and an RBI.  After Mussina gave up a 3 run HR in the first, Alex stepped up and hit a HR to start a rally that put the Yanks within 1.  For all of those who said he only hits HR when they are up by a million runs, they are wrong.  Alex is one of the biggest reasons this team is where they are.  He certainly was the only reason last year.

Notes:  It was announced recently that Phil Hughes will be out 'till at least August.  The Yankees are not clearing him to even start throwing for two weeks, and after that it will be approximately 6 weeks until he will pitch for the team again.  This means that Rasner and Chamberlain will likely close out the rotation along with Wang, Pettite, and Mussina for at least the next two months.
