After a gruesome performance by Chin Ming Wang, the Yankees stormed back and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Blue Jays. In a game the Yankees needed to win, the offense pulled through, despite all the odds. After falling into a 7-2 deficit, the Yanks scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th and 2 more in the 6th to bring the game to 7-6. The bullpen held it there for 4 solid innings, including 2 by Jose Veras, and then Kyle Farnsworh came in. He allowed one run in the 9th to put the Jays up by 2 and their closer BJ Ryan came in to seal the deal. After retiring the first two batters, Jeter and Abreu, A-rod stepped to the plate. He lined a double into the gap and Matsui drove him in with a single. Manager Girardi chose to pinch hit for Jose Molina with slugger Jason Giambi, and he responded. He hit a 2 run towering shot into the right-field upper-deck, and th Yankees won 9-8. It was Ryan's first blown save of the year.
